For those of our readers who are lucky/sensible enough to have invested in a great bottleless water cooler for their home or office, it is obvious that having lovely, chilled water on tap is just the ticket to an easy life. Amongst other things. It may not be so obvious, however, which other foodstuffs should/should not be kept at a cool temperature, and this week we help you out with advice on this tricky subject:

Certain baked goods: If you’ve made cookies with some sort of creamy/custard filling, avoid putting them in the fridge, as cooling them down will only speed up the process of them going stale. Not what we want.

Potatoes: Did you know that refrigerating potatoes will make the starch in them turn to sugar, giving them a sweet taste when cooked? That’s a fact.

Peanut butter: With few branded exceptions, keep your peanut butter in the cupboard, even when opened. It’ll make it much easier to put on your toast when the mood takes you.

The next step is deciding which type of water cooler is best suited to your requirements.

The two types of water cooler available are bottle-type water coolers and mains –fed water coolers.

Bottle-type water coolers provide water via bottles of water that attach to the top of the body of the cooler and are replaced when they are empty.

Mains-fed water coolers are connected to the water supply within the building. The water is filtered prior to entering the water cooler giving it a refreshing, clean taste.

If you decide that a mains-fed water cooler best suits your requirements you then need to establish whether mains fed will work in your building…

Firstly you need to ensure that the water in your building is potable. This means checking that the water coming from your taps is fit for drinking.

One way is to see whether you have one of these signs displayed nearby.

Once you have confirmed that the water out the taps is mains water and safe for drinking, you then need to decide where you want the cooler installed. The most important considerations are:

Proximity to the mains water supply
Access to a standard 13 amp plug point.

Redbridge council switches to Plumbed in Water Coolers
