WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PLUMBED-IN WATER COOLER IS LEAKING

Check the drip tray

Although some of our water coolers like the Cascade bottleless water cooler have a drip tray that feeds directly into mains waste water, many water coolers have a drip tray with a fixed capacity. This means that if the drip tray fills up over time with water then this can fill completely. Any more water will simply overflow from the drip tray and work its way down to the floor. 

All drip trays can be simply removed from the water cooler and emptied out – and we strongly recommend that our clients check this first when they suspect a leak. It is also a good idea to have a cleaner emptying the drip tray on a regular basis as this is often overlooked by office staff.

If your cooler is still leaking then it is likely to be a problem with the pipework.

Firstly turn off the water supply to the water cooler

Locate the BLUE and WHITE shut off valve shown to the left. This is typically found at the back of the cooler or on the installation pipe work.

To turn off the water supply to the cooler turn the blue head 90 degrees either clockwise or anticlockwise so that the blue head is at 90 degrees to the pipework.

This will mean that no more water will be circulating around the water cooler and you have limited any leak.

 

Check the pipework from the mains water to the water cooler

Water cooler leaks are often caused by the water cooler being moved slightly which has put pressure on the pipework that connects the water cooler to the mains water. It may be that you can find the cause of the leak by checking that all the pipework is firmly fixed together – this is especially true of soft plumbed installations which often use simple John Guest push fittings.

In the case of hard plumbed installations please contact us as these are very hard to troubleshoot if you have no plumbing experience.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE NO WATER COMING OUT OF YOUR WATER COOLER

Always, always check the power

Check that your water cooler is plugged in at the wall socket and that the mains power is switch is turned on (a surprisingly common cause of the cooler not working -). Check that the power cable at the back of the cooler is firmly pushed into its socket in the cooler and finally check that the switch (or both switches) on the back of the cooler is turned to the on position and illuminated. It is common for cleaners to use power socket at night and not replace it.

Check that the water block hasn’t tripped

The first thing to look at is the water block -and check that it has not tripped. When the water cooler water block trips it stops any water reaching the water cooler. A picture of the water block is shown to the left. If the water block has the little red trip switch on it, check that this is pushed in. 

If the water block does not have this trip switch then you will need to switch off the water supply to the cooler and then open up the top of the water block – when you look inside the water block you will see a pink button in the centre of the block. If this has popped out then simply depress the button to reset the water block. This will start the water supply again.

If your installation does not have a water block then it is essential to install one as soon as possible – these can be purchase through the water cooler installation kit section of our website.

Locate the BLUE and WHITE shut off valve shown to the left. This is typically found at the back of the cooler. Check that the blue head of the valve is in line with the pipework as this lets water flow normally to the water cooler.

To turn off the mains-fed water supply to the cooler turn the blue head 90 degrees either clockwise or anticlockwise so that the blue head is at 90 degrees to the pipework.
