Manchester gets Plumbed in Water Cooler Supply

In a bid to save money, as well as do their bit for the environment, Manchester City Council have invested in plumbed in water cooler installations in town halls, which will replace the bottled water supplies that are currently in place. Not only this, but sterilising units have also been installed, allowing the authority’s catering arm Manchester Fayre to hygienically refill bottles with tap water for use in board meetings and the like. Some bottles are still in circulation, however, as several of the council’s buildings do not allow plumbed in water cooler set-up, owing to the make up of their structures. Since this has been done, spending has been reduced to £26, 500 on water in 2009, with hopes that the cost will be slashed in half again for 2010.

Reuse your Water Bottle Caps

Here at The Water Cooler Company, we like to think we’re conscious of doing our bit for the environment, both at work and home. We are active recyclers in our local areas, and switch off the lights when we leave the room. Of course, it’s not only the plumbed in water cooler team that work hard at this- our sister company, The Water Delivery Company also love to reuse their plastic water bottles that they supply, and it was they that gave us this clever tip about how to reuse your bottle caps to reseal plastic bags:

All you need to do is take some scissors, and cut around the neck of an old plastic water bottle, leaving some of the plastic intact, about 3cms around the cap itself.

Stick the bunched up top of a plastic bag/food freezer bag through the cap, fold the cap over the neck, and screw the lid back on. Hey presto, a sealed bag, ready to be transported anywhere!

A day in the Life of a Fencing Champion

As the start date of the Commonwealth Games creeps ever nearer, many sports men and women are gearing themselves up for rigorous training, plenty of rest, and of course lots of drinking water. We caught up with our pal Mary Cohen, captain of the British fencing team, to see how she fits 8 glasses into her daily routine.

8am: To the gym for a workout- I always take a bottle with me, which I can fill up from the plumbed in water cooler on site. It’s important to hydrate both before and after exercising.

12pm: Lunch- a light sandwich, a fruit smoothie, and another big glass of water. It just makes me feel so much better when I drink it!

2pm: In the library looking for some Italian language books, which I’m also taking classes in. With so much travelling, it’s useful to know another language.

5pm: Training- this is where the hardcore water-drinking begins, and I need to make sure I continue sipping throughout the session.

The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook: Although not strictly written to be read as a novel, this is must for any baking fans. And if you don’t like words, the pictures are stunning and mouth-watering. Perfect for all tastes.
